Recognise the warning signs

Learn how to recognise pressure tactics, copied firm identities, unclear withdrawal terms and suspicious recovery offers before committing money.

Pause when the pressure starts

An urgent deadline can make careful checks feel inconvenient. Step away from the sales conversation and review the proposal independently. Claims of easy or certain returns deserve scrutiny, especially when the risks and costs are hard to explain.

Check who you are dealing with

A familiar brand or authentic-looking licence number may belong to a different firm. Open the relevant regulator’s website yourself and compare the record with the domain and contact details you were given.

Understand withdrawals before depositing

Read the account agreement and ask how withdrawal requests work, what identification is required, which fees apply and where disputes are handled. Keep copies of the terms you accept. Do not treat a sales representative’s promise as a substitute for the agreement.

Be cautious with recovery offers

After a suspected scam, another unsolicited approach may promise to recover the money for a fee. Verify the identity and authority of anyone offering help before sharing information or paying again.

If you are concerned

Stop and consult the official sources. If you have already paid or shared sensitive information, contact your bank promptly using details you independently verify, then use the appropriate reporting channel.
